NEW FACES LAUNCH TOAST MARTINBOROUGH TODAY

Two new faces, appropriately found through Facebook, are launching Toast Martinborough 2010 today.

New Zealand’s premier wine food and music festival, Toast Martinborough innovatively used a social media search to find a guy and a girl to be its 2010 faces on posters, ads, the festival booklet, web and social media sites.

“We were delighted with the response as Facebook fans got into the spirit. We whittled photos down to a final four, and asked for comments from fans before choosing Wynne Pirini and Jenn Shelton,” said Kaylene Moore, Toast Martinborough General Manager.

Wynne is a local Wellington lad who loves to spend his weekends surfing in the Wairarapa. "Toast Martinborough is an event that I try never to miss - one year I came all the way back from Canada just to attend!” When he's not drinking good Kiwi wines, he increases internet sales for local businesses.

Jenn Shelton is a Wellington-born singer and songwriter, who was the Rugby Sevens Star in 2008 and sang for the crowd.  Multi-talented, she has also worked in local theatre.

Toast Martinborough will be held on Sunday 21 November 2010. Tickets go on sale at 9am Wednesday 6 October 2010, only at 0800 TICKETEK or www.ticketek.co.nz.

As 2009 tickets sold out in just 13 minutes, similar interest is expected this year.

RUTH PRETTY – FOUR TIMES A WINNER…

A Steak & Kidney Pie on the menu at Ata Rangi Vineyard has been judged Toast Martinborough’s best beef dish for an outstanding fourth time, at this year’s Martinborough Wine, Food and Music Festival.

Ruth Pretty Catering won first prize at the 2009 beef and lamb competition, with judges Rex Morgan of Wellington’s Boulcott St Bistro and well known food writer, Annabelle White, commending the Pie as deserving of ‘gold’ for its great use and cookery of beef, its suitability for the occasion, and the memorable presentation and flavour harmonies.

The judges were impressed with the variety of beef and lamb dishes on offer at all the participating vineyards but it was Ruth Pretty’s execution and winning formula which made choosing her dish easy.

“The dish was almost impossible to fault,” said Annabelle White.  “It was a simple beef pie but from the pastry to the delicious savoury filling and accompanying relish you could tell it had been thoughtfully and thoroughly constructed from start to finish.”

The dishes available at each vineyard were assessed on presentation, composition, meat cookery, taste and suitability for the occasion.

Festival goers had their say too.  Everyone who voted for their favourite beef or lamb dish enters a draw to win two nights at Martinborough’s luxurious Parehua Country Estate at a total value of $770, or the chance to dine at a Beef + Lamb New Zealand Hallmark of Excellence restaurant to the value of $150.
